Generally I am not one to encourage most of my clients to pursue a full remodel project on their own. However, during difficult financial times, it may be required to do a project such as a Master Bath, simply one step at a time.

Here are a few suggestions that may help in your planning.

1. Don't Forget the Professionals: Remember that kitchen and bath professionals are trained, schooled, and/or certified for a reason. Whether it be CKD, CBD, CMKBD, remodel contractor, or a general con-

tractor, seek their advice, even if just paying for a couple hours of their time for professional input.

2. Workshops & Seminars: You can sometimes find kitchen, bath, and remodeling workshops offered at businesses, homeshows, or conferences. Even if you don’t know what to ask, someone else might.

3. NKBA & Other Websites: The NKBA is solely focused on the kitchen and bath industry. Other associations such as NARI, NHBA, and others.

Happy planning!

"It is hard to believe but I still have some empty storage space in the kitchen. Whenever someone sees the kitchen for the first time, they have the same reaction, 'Wow.'" Wayne & Diane Earp

Question: What is the basic idea when it comes to Universal Design? Answer: F: A,B, & E.

Q: Why are so many people going with french door fridges now?

Anonymous, St George UT

A: French door fridge configurations hit the mainstream market approximately 6-7 years ago. After there was such a positive response to the bottom mount (freezer on the bottom) units, manufacturers were trying to improve the design.

Bottom mount refrigeration is a very ergonomic and convenience based style. The fridge, which is most used, is at the most easily accessed level. However, the large width door sometimes would be too much of a hindrance to walkways, would sometimes hit cabinetry or countertops opposite the fridge, and also made transferring food around the door difficult, if that is where the landing space happened to be.

So, as a Certified Kitchen Designer, the french door unit makes acessibility much easier on both sides.

During a difficult time, it could be quite worrisome to have your wall oven go out of service. How about an obsolete model Bosch 30” convection wall oven, with full manufacturer’s warranty, still brand new in the box, for only half of it’s original price. You won’t want to miss this opportunity for a great buy.

At Portrait Kitchens, we are focusing our efforts on the needs of those who are aging, and would like to maintain mobility, independence, and comfort in their homes during the “golden years”. Our beautiful walk-in tubs make bathing a much more comfortable experience. Come by to see one for you or a loved one.
