Kitchens As Collectors Items:
Never to Be Used?

In this Issue

Kitchens As Collectors Items; Never to Be Used?.....................1

Kitchen Lighting; It’s As Easy as 1-2-3 Sources of Light!....................2

Some people like to collect salt and pepper shakers, others baseball hats, and still others postage stamps, but there are not many who collect kitchens.

Some people do find themselves spending an amazing amount of time and resources planning their “dream” kitchen, only to not use it after it is complete. They might literally find themselves showing it to friends and family more as a tour of museum artifacts instead of a function rooom in the house.

Now, there’s nothing that says that

the kitchen has to be used a certain amount of hours in order to be worth the investment. However, I sometimes wonder why the homeowner cares about all the infinite details, if he or she will only use it as a tourist attraction for pleasure viewing with guests.

Even still, with projects of this kind in my hands, I will remind my glitter dreamy eyed client, that I will help them design the kitchen with more users in mind than just themselves. They can keep in mind resale, entertainment, or future living situations with extended family.

Question: Which of the following materials are not used for the construction of cabinet sides?

Answer: E: None. They are all used.

Q: What are the benefits of a built-in refrigerator instead of a freestanding one?

A: You mean, besides paying more? Not really. Most built-in refrigerators cost two to three times their freestanding counterparts.

One of the most obvious benefits to a built-in refrigerator, is that it frees up space around the fridge so that the walkway clearance space is not interfered with.

Also, a built-in version allows easier visibility and access to the cold storage food items in it’s interior. Contrast this with rummaging through the 26 cubit foot freestanding fridges, with extra deep shelves, to get to the items in the back of the fridge.

Finally, one of the other noticable benefits, is lifespan. Because the compressors are usually built stronger, they last longer. This is especially true with units where the fridge and freezer compartments each have their own compressor.
